The sportsbooks in St. Louis kept trying to reassure themselves and the fans that slugger Albert Pujols would never leave the world champion St. Louis Cardinals. But it has been reported that Albert Pujols will be part of a parade of players that has gone through the new Miami Marlins stadium to see if he wants to make it home. Shortstop Jose Reyes and pitcher Mark Buehrle have already been given the grand tour of the new baseball stadium, and the Marlins say they are excited to have Pujols scheduled to make a stop this coming weekend.
The pay head baseball fans in Pittsburgh had to watch as the Pirates fell from playoff contention to the basement of the NL in the span of a month. One of the things that the Pirates lacked down the stretch was veteran leadership. Pittsburgh announced that it signed veteran catcher Rod Barajas to a one-year deal with an option for a second year. The former Dodgers catcher adds offensive power and a veteran presence to a team that is trying to build a playoff contender.
Texas Rangers’ slugger Josh Hamilton was severely hampered in the World Series by what was thought to be a strained groin muscle. Once the series ended, Hamilton had more extensive intertops tests that revealed a possible sports hernia that will require surgery. Hamilton will know more when he gets an MRI done later this week. If it does turn out to be a sports hernia, then Hamilton would get surgery immediately to reduce the amount of time he would miss next season.
